Scene of a head-on crash which killed an Angus man Sunday morning.

An Angus man, 53, was killed in a head-on collision with a wrong-way vehicle on Highway 401 Sunday morning.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 35-year-old Mississauga woman, was also pronounced dead on the scene, in the eastbound 401 lanes just west of Bayview Avenue.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the OPP Highway Safety Division said it happened at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

“Reports at this time indicate that there was a vehicle travelling the wrong way, a black vehicle,” Schmidt said. “This is an absolutely tragic situation.

“I don’t know if weather played a part or what the circumstances were that led this vehicle to be travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes.”

Schmidt said next-of-kin are being notified.

The crash is being investigated by Toronto OPP, and anyone with information that can assist investigators is asked to call 416-235-4981.
