Local senior nabbed by OPP RIDE check

In separate incident, driver attempted to flee RIDE check; vehicle impounded in both cases

Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police officers were conducting a RIDE check on Bay Street in Gravenhurst on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. when a vehicle approached their location and upon discussion with the driver it was determined that alcohol was a factor.

Police arrested and charged 65-year-old Joel Holmstrom of Gravenhurst, ON with impaired operation CC 320.14(1)(a) and over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on July 6, 2021 to answer his charges. Furthermore, his driver's license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded.

On Monday, June 7, 2021, at 11 p.m. officers were again conducting a RIDE check program at a similar location in Gravenhurst when a vehicle attempted to flee upon seeing police.

Officers were able to follow the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop a short distance away and subsequently arrested and charged 34-year-old Evan Monk of Bracebridge, ON with impaired operation CC 320.14(1)(a) and over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Aug. 17, 2021 to answer to his charges. His driver's license was suspended and his vehicle impounded.
