Local teen faces multiple charges after ‘substantial’ drug bust

Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have laid numerous drug-related charges and seized a substantial quantity of drugs and cash as a result of a traffic stop within Springwater Township.

On the evening of Friday March 17, 2023, around 9 p.m. an officer was on general uniform patrol on County Road 27 within Springwater Township. 

The officer noted a traffic violation from a passing motorist and a traffic stop was commenced. Upon interacting with the driver, a small amount of cannabis was seen readily available to the driver.

From there a search of the vehicle commenced where a substantial amount of various types of suspected drugs and trafficking paraphernalia were located and seized as follows;

  • Cocaine 137.6 grams
  • Fentanyl 16.3 grams
  • Psilocybin 6.3 grams
  • Oxycodone 57 pills
  • Hydromorphone 9 pills
  • $3,575 Canadian currency
  • Infiniti weighing scale x 2
  • Apple iPhone

The street value of the seized substances is estimated to be in excess of $20,000.

As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old male from Elmvale was arrested and criminally charged with the following;

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- opioid (Other than Heroin) x3
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking

Various other charges were also laid under the Highway Traffic Act, Tobacco Tax Act, Cannabis & Control Act 2017, and Cannabis Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood, on April 18, 2023.
