Man faces impaired charges after early-morning stop in Bracebridge

Police say the 24-year-old was in a school zone, on his way to a jobsite, when he was stopped by OPP officers

BRACEBRIDGE – As school returns and there is an increase in students traveling on foot and bicycle as well as on school buses, Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have been focusing time and enforcement measures in school zones in order to promote awareness and to ensure that everyone reaches their destination safely.

Officers were in the area of Clearbroook Trail in Bracebridge, at 9 a.m. on Monday Sept. 13, 2021 and interacted with a motorist on his way to a jobsite nearby. Officers suspected that the driver had consumed alcohol and after an investigation, arrested and charged 24-year-old Reuben Aasman of Waterdown, Ont. with:

  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Alcohol CC 320.14(1)(a),
  • Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b) and
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine CDSA 4(1).

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Nov. 23, 2021 to answer to his charges. Furthermore his driver's license has been suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded.
