Orillia man passed out in vehicle facing numerous charges: OPP

OPP say the driver 'was showing obvious signs of being under the influence' on New Year’s Eve

A man who police were told was passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle on New Year's Eve is facing numerous charges, including impaired driving.

Ontario Provincial Police and paramedics were called to Narrows Road in Severn Township just before midnight on December 31.

OPP say the driver “was showing obvious signs of being under the influence.”

They say the driver tried to flee, but officers were able to safely stop him.

 William Quinn, 32, of Orillia is now facing the following charges:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Flight from peace officers
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA) 4(1) Adult Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code X9
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order x2
  • Driving while under suspension X5
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

His driver's licence was also suspended for an additional 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for a week.

Anyone who spots what they suspect is an impaired driver is asked to call 911.
