A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted on sex-related charges involving a minor in Barrie.
According to court documents, the man was sentenced on Feb. 15 in Barrie court after pleading guilty on Sept. 19, 2023.
A publication ban prevents reporting of any details that could identify the victim.
The man was arrested on Oct. 21, 2021 and charged with two counts of sexual touching and two counts of communicating to facilitate commission of an offence.
He was later convicted on one count of each.
The incidents occurred between Oct. 15, 2015 and April 1, 2018, according to documents.
The man also received a mandatory DNA order and will remain on the sexual offender registry for 20 year. He must also pay $10,000 in restitution.
The Sexual Offender Information Registry Act (SOIRA) requires individuals found guilty of certain sex-related criminal offences to be registered in a sex-offender database.
As part of his sentence, the man is also banned from possessing weapons, ammunition or explosive substances.
