Midhurst shop destroyed by fire

Damage from blaze estimated to be $150,000; fire is not considered suspicious

Springwater fire crews responded to a fully engulfed structure in Midhurst on Thursday night.

The building, described as a shop by fire officials, is located on Dwyer Road.

The call was received just before 9 p.m.

“When crews arrived at the scene, the building was fully involved,” Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French said.

“Crews were in a defensive operation and additional tankers were requested to assist with a water shuttle.”

Crews brought the fire under control by 11 p.m., and worked throughout the night extinguishing hot spots.

Damage is estimated to be around $150,000.

“There were no injuries. The fire is not considered suspicious, and we are continuing to investigate the cause,” said French.
