Midland cab driver assaulted with weapon: OPP

A man is facing charges after a cab driver was assaulted with a weapon last weekend in Midland.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26, Southern Georgian Bay OPP received a report of a cab driver being threatened by a man with an edged weapon in the parking lot of The Beer Store on County Road 93, according to a news release.

While police responded to the scene, they received a report of a suspicious man in the Mountainview Plaza area. Officers went to a bush area behind the plaza, where a tent was set up, and located the suspect, who was also wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Andrew Norton, 57, of no fixed address, Midland, has been charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. He was held for a bail hearing and will appear in court at a later date.
