A Midland man was arrested following a 10-hour standoff with police at a home on Everton Road.

Police have arrested a man following a 10-hour standoff Tuesday in Midland.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers were called to a home on Everton Road, where a man was reportedly wielding an axe and then “a running chainsaw in a threatening manner towards others” during a dispute, police said in a news release. Occupants of the residence managed to flee.

Police tried to get the suspect to exit the home, to no avail. They restricted traffic on Everton Road and asked nearby residents to shelter in their homes.

Police entered the home shortly after midnight and made an arrest. They seized weapons that were believed to have been used during the incident.

David Charlebois, 62, of Midland, has been charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and one count of failure to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing Wednesday.
