Family and friends of a 21-year-old Barrie man killed in a motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon in Orillia are remembering him as someone with a strong work ethic who loved sports and the outdoors.

“He played hockey for the (Barrie Minor Hockey Association) for 12 years, from when he was four until he was 16, and he had so many friends and touched so many people," she said Wednesday. "He was always there for everybody.

“He loved fishing and being adventurous, was always riding dirt bikes and having fun with friends. He would’ve done anything for his family," Katelin added.

A GoFundMe page has raised more than $5,300 since being started Wednesday morning. Its goal is to raise $20,000 to help the family with the funeral and other expenses.

Angela McKeown, the mother of one of Young's friends, said he spent a lot of time at her home.

“His work ethic was impressive for such a young man," she said. "He was adventurous and I heard all sorts of stories of the things he and friends would get up to.

“He had a great sense of humour and a very gentle side, even though he tried to portray a bit of a tough guy," McKeown added. "I know whenever my daughter needed a friend the most, he was always there for her, without question.

"He was family to us.”

Orillia OPP Const. Shelby Russell said the crash is still under investigation and no charges have been laid.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has video footage is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
