A Loretto woman has been charged after three Ontario Provincial Police officers were injured while responding to a call about a "combative" person in Caledon on New Year's Eve.

Caledon OPP officers were called on Sunday, Dec. 31 around 3 p.m. about an intoxicated person throwing bottles at cars and people while standing in the middle of the road on Highway 50, south of Highway 9.

The woman had a dog with her that had bitten a person who had stopped to try and assist, according to police.

"When officers arrived, they were faced with an aggressive dog as well as a combative individual," stated a news release. "Officers, with the assistance of Caledon Animal Services, were able to secure the dog. In the course the arrest of the person, three officers were injured, two of whom were bitten by the person."

Police say the officers sustained minor injuries.

A 29-year-old Loretto woman has been charged with mischief, resisting arrest, assaulting a peace officer and public intoxication.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

The accused, whose name was not released, was scheduled to appear in Orangeville court.

The civilian who was bitten by the dog prior to police arrival sustained minor injuries, according to OPP.

Caledon's bylaw enforcement department will be investigating regarding the dog bite.
