MUSKOKA LAKES - Members of the Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police responded to a serious collision in the area of Highway 118 and Brackenrig Road.

At around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 3, emergency crews were called out when a three-vehicle collision was reported involving a tractor trailer.

The collision occurred on Highway 118 near Brackenrig Road in Muskoka Lakes Township.

The collision ensued after a vehicle fishtailed, lost control and veered into the rear wheels of an oncoming tractor trailer.

The tractor trailer jack-knifed and struck another vehicle, forcing it into the ditch. Muskoka Lakes Fire extricated the driver of the third vehicle before Muskoka EMS transported him to hospital and ultimately airlifted to Sunnybrook with serious injuries.

Icy roads were a factor in this collision. Ice can sometimes be difficult to detect, especially after dark, police continue to urge all motorists to drive according to road and weather conditions.
