An officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West detachment stopped three high-speed vehicles in the span of six hours on the evening of June 2. One of these vehicles was travelling more than twice the speed limit.
On June 2 at 5:55 p.m., an officer out patrolling the Township of Clearview observed a vehicle that was travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer captured a speed reading on this vehicle of 131 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The driver, a 41-year-old male from Bradford, was charged with race a motor vehicle (excessive speed).
On June 2 at 8:31 p.m., this same officer, patrolling in the same area, observed another vehicle travelling at an extremely high rate of speed. The speed reading captured on this vehicle was 169 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The driver, a 26-year-old male from Stayner, was charged with race a motor vehicle (excessive speed).
On June 2 at 11:59 p.m., this same officer was patrolling Highway 26 in Springwater when yet another vehicle was observed to be travelling at a high rate of speed. The speed reading on this vehicle was 131 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The driver, a 47-year-old male from Collingwood, was also charged with race a motor vehicle (excessive speed).
All three drivers received an immediate 30-day driver’s licence suspension and their vehicles were all impounded for 14 days.
