Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two drivers with impaired driving-related offences over the weekend.
On Dec. 17, just before midnight, officers were conducting a RIDE program on Wellington Street near Smith Street in Bracebridge. After an interaction with one driver, police arrested and charged 65-year-old Robert Dankewich of Lively, Ont., with
- Operation while impaired- over 80 mg, CC 320.14(1)(b)
He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Feb. 14, 2023.
On Dec. 18, at 7:20 p.m., a motorist on Highway 11 North in Gravenhurst became concerned about the driving behaviour of another motorist and called the police. Officers located the vehicle in Gravenhurst and, after an investigation into the cause of the behaviour, arrested and charged 55-year-old Michele Monaco of Richmond Hill, with
- Impaired operation of a vehicle, CC 320.14(1)(a)
- Operation while impaired- over 80 mg, CC 320.14(1)(b)
She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 14, 2023.
In all cases where impaired driving charges are laid, the accused's driver's licence is suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle is impounded.
Police would like to remind drivers that the Mandatory Alcohol Screening law allows police with an approved alcohol screening device to demand a roadside breath sample from any lawfully stopped driver without having reasonable suspicion that a driver is an alcohol impaired.
