OPP investigates weapons incident near schools

Schools put in 'hold and secure' as police searched for suspect

On June 7, 2018 at approximately 12:44 p.m. the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to Matchedash Street North in the City of Orillia with reports of people fighting and someone with an edged weapon.

Officers attended the scene and observed two males and a female with minor injuries. All three persons refused medical attention. The suspect had left the area prior to police arrival. 

As a precautionary measure the schools in the area were put on a hold and secure. Central Region Canine and Emergency Response Team were called in to assist in locating the suspect. The hold and secure was lifted a short while later without incident at any of the schools.

Police believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety. The investigation into this incident is continuing. If anyone witnessed this or has information regarding the circumstances they are encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 1-888-310-1122.
