OPP investigating death of two-year-old child in Gravenhurst

The child, who had suffered 'significant injuries,' was taken to a local hospital and transferred to a Toronto hospital before succumbing to injuries

A two-year-old child has died after sustaining "significant injuries," says the Bracebridge OPP.

On Thursday, Jan. 5, OPP officers and Muskoka paramedics responded to a call at a Gravenhurst home related to a child who had suffered significant injuries.

Police say the child was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a Toronto hospital. The child succumbed to their injuries on Saturday, Jan. 7.

The OPP is not releasing any further details, noting "the investigation is complex." However, police say "there is no threat to public safety."

The Muskoka Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch, with the assistance of OPP forensic identification services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS).
