OPP officer injured in Highway 400 crash

Officer was transported to hospital following collision on Highway 400, near Highway 88, Thursday

An OPP officer was injured in a crash on Highway 400 Nov. 2.

The incident occurred along the northbound 400, near Highway 88, Thursday at around 11:30 a.m. A photo posted on the OPP Highway Safety Division's account on X, the social-media platform formerly known as Twitter, shows damage to the back-end of a police SUV.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the officer, who works out of the Aurora detachment, was responding to a call when the back of their vehicle was struck by a transport truck.

"The circumstances around how that happened — they're still working on that part," he said. "We haven't determined if any charges will be laid."

The officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital for precautionary reasons.

One lane was blocked and traffic was slow through the area for a couple hours. However, all lanes have since reopened.
