OPP officers help disperse gathering of over 1,500 people in Dufferin County

Police say there were approximately 1,000 vehicles parked in the fields at Amaranth Township property; Organizer identified and charged

DUFFERIN, COUNTY - The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a gathering with over 1,500 people in attendance that took place on a rural property in Amaranth Township.

On Sunday, July 25, 2021, at approximately 9:15 p.m., members of the Dufferin OPP responded to several noise complaints and reports of a large gathering of people at an address of a rural property in Amaranth.

Police attended the location and observed approximately 1,000 cars parked in the fields of the property, loud music, spotlights, and an estimated 1,500 people in attendance.

Rapid Deployment Officers from several OPP detachments including, Caledon, Huronia West and Nottawasaga, attended the scene to assist with dispersing the crowd and traffic control as vehicles vacated the premise.

The organizer of the gathering has since been identified and charges under the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA) are pending.

Public safety remains the top priority. While the OPP encourages everyone to follow emergency measures and health recommendations, officers continue to investigate and take necessary action in response to incidents reported under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA) and Re-opening Ontario Act (ROA). We are working with local Public Health Units (PHUs), bylaw enforcement and other agencies.
