NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE
************************
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reminds everyone that it is unsafe and illegal to obstruct the normal flow of traffic and for pedestrians to be on 400-series highways.

Under the Highway Traffic Act (Regulation 627), it is illegal for pedestrians to be on 400-series highways, as well as on- and off-ramps.

Pedestrians are prohibited on 400-series highways because of the risks to safety for both the pedestrians and the motoring public.

The OPP acknowledges and respects your right to lawful expressions of opinion.
It is, however, unsafe and illegal for pedestrians to be on controlled access highways and vehicles to disrupt the normal flow of traffic.

The Highway Traffic Act (Section 132) also prohibits vehicles from being driven at such a low rate of speed to impede or block the normal movement of traffic. In addition, anyone who obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use of property can be charged under Section 430 of the Criminal Code with Mischief.

While the OPP acknowledges and respects the right to lawful, peaceful and safe expressions of opinion, there is no right to restrict or disrupt transportation infrastructure.

All Ontarians have a right to a safe environment, and to free and uninhibited passage within the province of Ontario. Let's work together to make sure demonstrations remain lawful, peaceful and safe.
