This bulletin was prepared to warn Canadians of ongoing financial scams. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) is receiving reports of fraudulent phone calls claiming to be from government agencies offering assistance for Hurricane Fiona. The following alert was posted on all CAFC social media accounts:

"The CAFC is receiving reports of suspects calling victims claiming to be from the government and offering financial assistance for flooding caused by Hurricane Fiona. Suspects are asking for personal information and will ask you to purchase gift cards. This is a scam! The government will not call you and ask for personal information or for gift card payments."

Please share this information to your family and friends; you can report these types of calls to the CAFC via its online reporting system or by phone at 1-888-495-8501.
