A fugitive who was arrested in Quebec in July has been charged in relation to a bank robbery in Orillia.

On July 6 at about 4:45 p.m., police said the man, armed with what appeared to be a firearm, entered the Bank of Commerce on Laclie Street in Orillia and demanded money from a teller. Cash was provided and the man left. There were no injuries.

Marc Gauthier, 54, of Roxton Pond, Que., was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in late July. He had been serving a sentence of more than 41 years for a list of charges, including weapon offences, assault, forcible confinement, and possession of an explosive substance.

He eluded capture during a traffic stop July 17 in North Bay and was later arrested by police in Quebec.

On Saturday, Orillia OPP said Gauthier had been charged in connection to the incident in Orillia. He has been charged with two counts each of robbery using a firearm, disguise with intent, and possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition, and one count each of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of a prohibited device.
