Orillia man, 21, facing multiple charges after local drug bust

Cocaine, opioids, ecstasy, $30,000 gold chain and more than $4,380 in cash seized; Orillia man was released and will answer his charges in court in April

A 21-year-old Orillia man is facing several charges after a drug bust in Orillia Thursday.

Last month, the Orillia OPP detachment's community street crime unit (CSCU) launched an investigation into an individual who was allegedly trafficking drugs in Orillia.

"Utilizing investigative techniques police were able to gather evidence further advancing their investigation," notes a media release from the Orillia OPP.

As a result, on Thursday, members of the CSCU and front-line officers from the Orillia detachment arrested Andrew Briscoe, who was "safely brought" into police custody.

As a result of the investigation, 31 grams of cocaine, 35 oxycodone pills, one gram of ecstasy, two digital scales, two cellphones, a gold chain and broach valued at $30,000 and more than $4,380 in cash was seized.

Briscoe, 21, of Orillia is facing four charges:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of schedule 1 substance (ecstasy)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in April 2024.
