Orillia man charged after bomb threat at city centre

Man, 35, facing a number of charges in relation to May 12 incident and 'other similar incidents across the province'

A local man has been charged in relation to a bomb threat last month at the Orillia City Centre.

Police responded May 12 to the report of a bomb threat at the Andrew Street South building, which is home to city council chambers, city offices and residential units, shortly after noon. No explosive devices were found.

Orillia OPP announced today it had arrested Ricardo Groen, 35, of Orillia. He has been charged with uttering threats (three counts), harassing communications (three counts), breach of recognizance, and failure to comply with an undertaking.

He was held for a bail hearing today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia.
