The OPP have arrested and charged a local man with three sexual offences following an incident in downtown Orillia.

On Tuesday night at about 7:30 p.m. police responded to a report that a female had been sexually assaulted at Tina Nails and Tanning in downtown Orillia.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit, with the assistance of the OPP's forensic identification services (FIS), completed an "extensive investigation" which resulted in the arrest of a 52-year-old Orillia man.

The man is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

Orillia OPP Const. Ted Dongelmans said the man's identity could not be released.

"Whenever (a name is not provided), it's to ensure we don't identify the victim," Dongelmans told OrilliaMatters. "Especially when it comes to domestic and sex-related crimes, we don't release information that could potentially identify the victim."

When asked about concerns people in the community might have about the incident or the business where the alleged crime took place, Dongelmans said he "understands those concerns" but could not provide any further details.

The accused was released on a Form 10 Undertaking and is set to appear on Dec. 15, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.
