Orillia OPP has charged three people with impaired driving-related offences in the past seven days.

On Jan. 24, shortly before 3 p.m., police responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 11 North in Oro-Medonte as the suspect was driving toward Orillia. Police were told the vehicle “was all over the road, travelling at inconsistent speeds” and almost struck a guardrail.

Officers learned the vehicle had been involved in a minor collision, and they located it with the driver still inside. Police determined the driver was impaired.

Hazem Shamseldin, 49, of Mississauga, has been charged with operation while impaired (drug), dangerous operation, possession of a Schedule 1 substance (opioid other than heroin), operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus) and failure to stop after an accident.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 27, officers were called to the parking lot of a restaurant on Murphy Road in Orillia for the report of someone passed out at the wheel of a vehicle.

David Heckindorn, 52, of Severn, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and failure or refusal to comply with a demand.

At about 9 p.m. the same day, an officer on patrol saw a vehicle being driven on the wrong side of the road on Memorial Avenue in Orillia.

Nick Fomenko, 68, of Orillia, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and failure or refusal to comply with a demand.

All three accused are scheduled to appear in court in Orillia in February. Their driver’s licences have been suspended for 90 days and the vehicles were impounded for seven days.
