A pair of local drivers are facing impaired-related charges, police say.

On Jan. 7, just before 2 a.m., a 33-year-old woman from Severn Township showed "signs of alcohol consumption" at a RIDE check in Orillia.

Following an investigation, OPP officers charged Christine Swailes with operation while impaired, a Criminal Code offence.

Earlier today, at about 2 a.m., the police received a report of a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction on a Severn Township road.

Officers patrolled the area and located a vehicle matching the description and conducted an impaired driving investigation.

As a result, Collin Fleming, 37, from Severn Township was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Operation While prohibited under the Criminal Code contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia to answer to the charges at a later date in January 2023.

In both incidents, their driver's licence was suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.
