Orillia resident faces drug charges after incident in Moosonee

More than $51K worth of suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, crystal meth seized

MOOSONEE - On Oct. 7, 2022 at approximately 2:20 p.m., members of the Moosonee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an unwanted person on First Street in Moosonee.

As a result of the investigation the OPP seized an amount of suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, and crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $51,672.

The OPP has arrested and charged Shaquille Sutherland, 29, of Orillia, with the following:
    •    Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
    •    Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
    •    Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
    •    Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose contrary to section 88 of the CC
    •    Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
    •    Fail to comply with release order - other than to attend court contrary to section 145(5) of the Criminal Code - two counts
    •    Fail to comply with probation order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 21, 2022, in Timmins.
