The day got off to a frightening start for those riding an Orillia Transit bus this morning.

Orillia OPP say two males shot at the bus as it was travelling down West Street, near North Street and the former Orillia District Collegiate and Vocational School property. The incident occurred at about 7 a.m.

On social media, a person who was on the bus said she saw "two boys walking down the street" who "shot something" at the bus.

Police say the males shot at the bus with a pellet gun. Nobody was injured in the incident that, ironically, occurred on Transit Worker Appreciation Day.

The bus continued down West Street and has been parked in front of the Orillia Opera House parking lot while officers from the OPP forensic unit investigate.

In addition, the OPP called out the emergency response team and canine unit and they were seen going up West Street and various side streets this morning looking for the males in question.

The suspects have not been identified at this time and the investigation is ongoing, says a release from the OPP.

Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no elevated risk to the public at this time, notes the release.

If you witnessed the shooting or have any information, the OPP is appealing for the public's assistance. They ask witnesses to contact the Orillia OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
