PARRY SOUND - On May 19, 2020 at approximately 12 p.m., members of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fraud complaint from a local Parry Sound bank.
As a result of the investigation, two parties were arrested and charged:
William Trojek, age 48 of London, Ont. is charged with:
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
• Use, deals, acts on forged document, contrary to Section 368(1)(a) CC,
• Fraud over $5,000, contrary to Section CC380(1)(a) CC,
• Counterfeiting stamps - use; contrary to Section CC 376(1)(a) CC,
• Identity theft - possess another person's identity information, contrary to Section 402.2(1) CC,
• Possession of an identity document, contrary to Section 56.1(1) CC, and
• Personation with intent to obtain property, contrary to Section 403(b) CC.
Jennifer Bhatt, age 45 of Orillia, Ont. is charged with:
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) CC,
• Use, deals, acts on forged document, contrary to Section 368(1)(a) CC,
• Fraud over $5,000, contrary to Section 380(1)(a) CC,
• Counterfeiting stamps - use, contrary to Section 376(1)(a) CC,
• Identity theft - possess another person's identity information, contrary to Section 402.2(1) CC,
• Possession of an identity document, contrary to Section 56.1(1) CC,
• Personation with intent to obtain property, contrary to Section 403(b) CC, and
• Failure to comply with undertaking, contrary to Section 145(4)(a) CC.
Both accused are in custody and will appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on May 22, 2020.
