Between Friday night and Sunday morning, Barrie police have charged five drivers with impaired operation within the city of Barrie.
A 25-year-old Oro-Medonte male is facing numerous charges including impaired operation and dangerous operation after police were contacted when witnesses saw the male’s vehicle collide with a concrete construction barrier at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25.
A 31-year-old Barrie woman was charged with impaired operation after the vehicle she was driving struck another car in a parking garage at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25.
Just after midnight on Saturday, Nov. 26, police were contacted regarding a vehicle that was parked on a curb and had been running for a period of time. When police arrived, they located the driver, a 31-year-old Mulmur male, who was subsequently charged with impaired operation and possession under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
After witnesses reported a possible impaired driver shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, police located and charged a 38-year-old Toronto male with impaired operation.
A 23-year-old Barrie male was charged with impaired after motorists alerted police shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27.
All five drivers had their licenses suspended for 90 days, their vehicles impounded for seven days, and are scheduled to appear at future court dates.
If you suspect someone is driving impaired, please call 911 to report. Those who choose to drive while impaired continue to risk innocent lives on our roads. No amount of alcohol or drugs is safe when driving, and driving under the influence of either is a criminal offence. As we approach the holiday season, drivers are reminded to arrange for an alternate means of transportation if they plan to consume alcohol or drugs.
In addition to RIDE initiatives throughout the year, the Barrie Police Service takes part in the Festive RIDE campaign, which runs from Nov. 17, 2022, until Jan. 2, 2023. Festive RIDE is an initiative led by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and involves a collaboration among Ontario police services to keep roads free of alcohol-impaired and drug-impaired drivers. During the campaign, officers will be highly visible as they conduct RIDE initiatives 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the province.
