Police investigating homicide in downtown Bradford (4 photos)

Expect a heavy police presence in the area of Holland Street between Toronto Street and Deer Run Crescent

The South Simcoe Police Service is investigating a homicide in the area that happened over night.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. today, police discovered a man in distress on Holland Street West in the area of Deer Run Street. 

Police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

He has not been identified and are seeking the help of the public to determine his identity.

He is described as male, white, 50-60 years of age, heavy set, approximately 6-feet tall with a receding hairline, brown hair and facial stubble.

He was wearing red shorts, white t-shirt, and white and black running shoes.

A suspect later surrendered to police, was taken into custody and charged with second degree murder.

The initial police investigation has determined the deceased man came to the aid of a young female involved in a violent altercation with the accused on Holland Street West. The female was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Holland Street will remain closed between Toronto Street and Deer Run Crescent for several hours.
