Police nab suspect wanted for robbery of downtown bank

On Nov. 12, 2019 at approximately 4:40 p.m. a male entered the bank on West Street South in the City of Orillia. The suspect approached the teller and stated he had a weapon and requested money. The teller handed over an unknown amount of cash. The suspect then fled southbound on West Street.

The Orillia OPP responded quickly to the incident and called out Central Region Canine (K9) to assist with the investigation. The suspect is still outstanding and police are continuing the investigation.

On Nov. 14, 2019 the Orillia OPP Crime Unit and Orillia OPP uniform members arrested 31-year-old Sebastian Elliott in connection with this robbery.

The accused has been charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery with a Weapon Contrary to Section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
  • Disguise with Intent Contrary to Section 354(2) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Use of a Firearm While Committing an Offence Contrary to Section 85(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon Contrary to Section 90) of the Criminal Code.
  • Uttering Threats Contrary to Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose Contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code.
  • Two counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance Contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was being held in custody and appeared on Nov. 15, 2019 in the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.
