Police release name of accused in Bracebridge weapon scare

Police have released the name of a man charged in relation to an incident that occurred Monday in downtown Bracebridge.

At 10:20 a.m., Bracebridge OPP responded to a call from a member of the public who reported seeing a man standing on a sidewalk at Manitoba Street and Taylor Road, holding what appeared to be a handgun.

Police responded, arrested the man and determined the gun was a replica.

John McKeen, 54, of Bracebridge, has been charged with three counts of possession of a weapon/imitation for a dangerous purpose, three counts of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of pointing a firearm, and two counts each of using an imitation firearm while committing an offence and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

McKeen has a court date Friday in Bracebridge.
