Police say driver charged with impaired had six-year-old child in cargo area

A Simcoe County man has been charged after OPP stopped the vehicle Sunday evening near North Bay following traffic complaint

NORTH BAY – On Oct. 18, 2020, at approximately 5 p.m., the North Bay OPP received a traffic complaint about a vehicle towing a utility trailer, which was swerving all over the road and travelling at a high rate of speed on Hwy. 11 southbound towards the City of North Bay. 

Officers located the vehicle at a gas station in North Bay. After speaking with the driver, the officer conducted a roadside screening test on the driver, which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to the North Bay OPP for additional tests.

There was a six-year-old child located in the cargo area of the vehicle.

After police investigation, a 42-year-old from Adjala-Tosorontio Township, was charged with the following:  

  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) contrary to the Criminal Code (CC);  
  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs contrary to the CC; and  
  • Draw Trailer, No Plate - contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).  

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice with a date to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 22, 2020. The vehicle was impounded for 7-days and the driver's licence was suspended for 90-days.
