Police seize cocaine during traffic stop in Orillia

The Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged a vehicle driver with a drug offence and driving infractions following a vehicle stop in the City of Orillia.  

On Jan. 30, 2021, just after 1 a.m., officers observed a traffic violation on Barrie Road and proceeded to stop the vehicle. It was discovered that the driver did not have a current driver's licence and further investigation led to the seizure of a quantity of cocaine.   

The driver, David Shirk, age 34, of Orillia, was subsequently arrested and has been charged with:   

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine 
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Driver - fail to properly wear seatbelt

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is set to appear on April 6, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.
