An investigation into the death of a 38-year-old man in Oro Station in August has concluded with the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) deciding to discontinue the investigation.

"Based on the SIU’s preliminary inquiries, including a review of video footage that captured the incident in parts, director (Joseph) Martino was satisfied the investigation should be discontinued," a release from the SIU said. "On this record, it was apparent that the police did not cause the man’s fatal injuries, nor did they contribute to his death by any act or omission that transgressed the limits of care prescribed by the criminal law. The file has been closed."

In the early morning of Aug. 12, Ontario Provincial Police officers were told of a man lying in the Highway 11 North lanes. An officer found the man in the area of Line 7 and was able to help him off the road.

The man broke free from police a short time later and was struck by a pickup truck "a couple of hours later" and died in hospital.
