SIU probing death of man bitten by police dog in Midland

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating following the death of a man who was bitten by an OPP dog in Midland.

According to the SIU, Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers responded Oct. 13 to a gun-related call involving two men. One man fled the scene, and he was tracked down and bitten by a police dog. The 45-year-old man was arrested. He died in hospital on Sunday. The death was reported to the SIU the next day.

Three investigators have been assigned to the case, and a post-mortem is scheduled for Wednesday.
