A man faces numerous charges after Barrie police say he broke into a vehicle at a local carpool lot while the owner was resting inside early Sunday morning.
Shortly after midnight on March 3, officers responded to a report of mischief that had just taken place at Essa and Ardagh roads in south-end Barrie.
Police were told that a man had just broken a window to a car parked in the lot.
"The unknown suspect then reached into the car and removed some personal belongings from the centre console while the owner, who was initially asleep in the car, awoke, and chased the suspect into a wooded area on the south side of Essa Road," police said in a release.
A canine track was conducted and, just before 2 a.m., a suspect was located. A 36-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested.
Police say six other vehicles that had also been parked in the same carpool lot were entered after they had their windows broken, too.
The male suspect was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued. He was charged with seven counts of mischief over $5,000 as well as failure to comply with a probation order. He was released from custody with an April 24 court date in Barrie.
