Stayner man dies in motorcycle crash

A 25-year-old Stayner man has died after being thrown from his motorcycle in a crash. 

According to Huronia West OPP, Johnathon Tyler Phillips was driving a motorcycle, lost control, and struck a guard rail on Simcoe County Road 9 near Lavender Hill Road yesterday at around 7 p.m. He died at the scene. 

On June 30, 2020, members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a serious collision on Simcoe County Road 9 near Lavender Hill Road shortly before 7:00 p.m. 

Simcoe County Road 9 was closed for several hours. According to a news release from Huronia West OPP, officers trained in collision reconstruction were documenting the scene during that time. The road opened at about 2 a.m. 

The collision is still under investigation, say OPP.
