Suspect drills into gas tank to steal fuel: police

Police report the suspect made off with $1,900 of fuel, remind people to 'ensure all video surveillance has night vision quality'

Police were recently called to a Meaford business for a report of gas theft. 

The theft occurred Jan. 5, 2024, and Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported someone entered a vehicle at a business on Highway 26, drilled into the gas tank and took the fuel. The value of the fuel stolen was estimated around $1,900. 

Video surveillance showed the theft occurred Jan. 4 between 5:40 a.m. and 5:52 a.m. 

"Police are reminding all residents to lock their vehicles and remove their valuables," states a news release from OPP. "It's very important to ensure all video surveillance has night vision quality."

The Grey Bruce OPP are continuing to investigate. If anyone observes a suspicious person in or around vehicles or businesses during night hours to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 at the time of the incident.
