The Orillia OPP are investigating a stabbing that occurred near The Lighthouse shelter on Sunday afternoon.

Police were dispatched to a "weapons call" on Queen Street at about 1:20 p.m. Sunday.

"An individual (was) assaulted with an edged weapon," notes a media release from the Orillia OPP.

Officers quickly responded and were able to locate the suspect a short distance away.

The male victim was transported to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.

"Fortunately, the injuries were relatively minor as all vital organs were missed" in the incident, said Brett Boniface, the Orillia detachment's media officer.

Dale Vincent, 40, of no fixed address, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was held pending a bail hearing today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket.

The OPP canine and Central Region emergency response team were called in to assist officers with the investigation.
