Barrie police search for suspects after a crash on Cundles Road East, Monday afternoon. City police say the driver and passenger fled the scene, leading to the discovery of heroin and cocaine in their vehicle. Both are still at large.

A Monday afternoon crash, with the driver and passenger fleeing the scene, led to the discovery of heroin and cocaine in their vehicle, according to Barrie police.

Both suspects are still at large.

The collision, which happened shortly before 4 p.m. on March 18, occurred after a black car travelling eastbound on Cundles Road East reportedly drifted across a number of lanes of traffic and struck a white SUV, which was heading westbound, according to a news release from Barrie police issued Tuesday morning.

Police say the driver of the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, which happened near Lions Gate Boulevard.

A 31-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman who were in the car fled the area on foot. Although a canine track was conducted, police say they managed to elude apprehension.

Through the ongoing investigation, police say investigators have been able to identify the pair. Warrants are being sought for their arrest.

Police also say officers seized suspected heroin, cocaine and drug-related paraphernalia from the car at the time of the crash.

Police say the man who was driving the car had passed out behind the wheel, which led to the collision.
