Ten charged in 3 hours for using phones while driving: OPP

Driving while using a handheld communication device results in a fine of $615 and three to six demerit points, police warn motorists

Ten people were charged within a three-hour period Thursday for using their cellphones while driving in Elmvale.

Huronia West OPP officers were targeting distracted drivers on Yonge Street between 8 and 11 a.m., resulting in 10 charges.

Driving while using a handheld communication device results in a fine of $615 and three to six demerit points.

“During this traffic enforcement, the OPP were approached by several residents in the area, which showed their appreciation as they have noticed an increase of distracted driving in the area,” police said in a news release.
