Theft suspect loses shoe attempting to flee police: OPP

The 52-year-old was accused of stealing heated coats in one of three separate shoplifting incidents on the same day in Gravenhurst

Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three people after separate shoplifting incidents in Gravenhurst.

In the first incident, on Dec. 1, Bracebridge OPP officers were dispatched to a theft in progress after a man was allegedly caught stealing a quantity of heated coats from a retail store on Muskoka Road North in Gravenhurst.

Officers arrived and located the man after he had dropped the items and lost a shoe attempting to flee through a snowbank.

Police have charged 52-year-old Raymond Leigh of Port Sydney with theft under $5,000 CC 334(b). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Jan. 16, 2024 to answer to his charge.

Later the same day, Bracebridge OPP officers were dispatched to a another alleged shoplift after a woman was caught stealing a quantity of goods from a pharmacy located on Brock Street in Gravenhurst.

Officers learned the accused had also allegedly stolen from the pharmacy on Nov. 29, 2023 as well.

Police have charged 26-year-old Ndeye Diop of Gravenhurst with two counts of theft under $5,000 CC 334(b) and possession of property obtained by crime CC 355(b).

The third incident happened at 8:15 p.m. when Bracebridge OPP officers were called to a retail store on Depot Drive in Bracebridge after a man caught the attention of store staff as he was concealing items on his person.

Officers responded quickly and arrested 29-year-old Kyle Moore of Huntsville. The accused has been charged with theft under $5000 CC 334(b), possession of property obtained by crime CC 355(b) and mischief CC 430(1)(b).

She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Jan. 30, 2024 to answer to her charges.
