Thornbury house destroyed in fire sold for $7M last week

The house, which was vacant at the time, is a 'total loss' reported the fire chief; Fire Marshal's office is investigating the blaze

Early this morning, a home in Lora Bay (Thornbury) was destroyed in a massive fire.

The Blue Mountains Fire Chief, Steve Conn, said there was nobody living in the home, but it had just sold for $7 million last week. The deal was to close this spring.

A neighbour called 911 this morning (Jan. 11) at about 3 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames, reported Conn.

OPP and fire crews remain on the scene. Conn said firefighters are currently dealing with hotspots and he is arranging for heavy equipment to take down the rest of the structure.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been called in to investigate the cause and because of the high dollar loss resulting from the blaze.
