Three people killed in house fire in New Tecumseth

While the cause of death has yet to be confirmed, police believe there is no imminent threat to public safety

The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating three deaths in the Town of New Tecumseth.

Officers were called to a residence on Pyne Hills Court in the Town of New Tecumseth shortly after 5:40 p.m. on Dec. 26, 2022, for a well-being check.

When officers arrived, they observed a fire at the residence and requested the assistance of New Tecumseth Fire and Paramedic Services. Two people were located deceased inside the residence; one other person was transported to hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.

While the cause of death cannot yet be confirmed, investigators believe there is no imminent threat to public safety, although the OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times.

OPP Central Region Crime Units and OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) continue the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in collaboration with the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.

The investigation is in its early stages and no further details can be released at this time. Residents of the area should expect to see a large police presence.
