Tip from the public leads to impaired driving charges: OPP

The 63-year-old Severn Township man was charged with impaired, had his licence suspended for 90 days and lost his vehicle for seven days

A concerned motorist placed a call to the OPP Communications Centre at approximately 12:19 p.m. Nov. 15, 2022 after observing a vehicle being operated in an unsafe manner on Highway 12 near William Street, Midland.

A Sergeant from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment who was nearby, located and stopped the described suspect vehicle on William Street, Midland.

The lone driver was arrested at the scene and transported to detachment for further investigation. As a result, David J. Clarke, 63, of Severn Township has been criminally charged with the following

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 1, 2022. He also faces a 90-day driver's licence suspension as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines and a seven-day vehicle impound.

Police officers across Ontario kicked of the Festive Ride program on Nov. 17, 2022 and locally between Nov. 14-18, 2022 officers stopped 218 vehicles at 20 random locations checking drivers for signs of impairment.
