Traffic complaint leads to impaired charges for Gravenhurst driver

The 55-year-old driver is facing three charges after weekend incident in northern Ontario

A traffic complaint from another driver on Highway 69 south of Sudbury over the weekend has led to charges for a Gravenhurst driver.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. on March 30 the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint about a possible impaired driver on Highway 69 in Cox Township, south of Sudbury.

The vehicle was stopped by police and the driver was arrested for impaired driving before being taken to to the Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing.

Nigel Soares, 55, from Gravenhurst was charged with:

  • operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • dangerous operation

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
