Transport driver arrested for impaired after Highway 11 rollover

The 48-year-old driver is facing four charges after the single-vehicle incident, say OPP

One person was arrested and charged with impaired driving after the OPP responded to a commercial motor vehicle rollover near Temagami yesterday.

On Jan. 24 shortly before 4 p.m., the Temagami OPP detachment responded to the crash on Highway 11.

Officers determined that the driver had consumed alcohol and so was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the Temiskaming OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Deandrea Demont, 48, from Elk Lake, west of New Liskeard, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Dangerous operation
  • Drive a vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

Demont was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 6. The accused was also issued a 30-day administrative driver's licence suspension.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Demont is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
