Two Orillia drivers charged with impaired in separate incidents

Arrests made after collision Saturday afternoon, as well as RIDE check shortly after midnight

The Orillia OPP arrested and charged two motorists with impaired driving this weekend, one as part of a collision investigation and the other in a RIDE spot check.

On Saturday, shortly after 4:45 p.m., police responded to the scene of a crash in the west end of Orillia, according to an OPP news release.

Police said there were no injuries, but one driver was determined to be impaired and was arrested.

Christopher Haupt, 48, of Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired (CC)
  • Operation while Prohibited (CC)
  • Careless Driving (HTA)

Haupt was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Dec. 5.

In a separate incident on Sunday at around 12:10 a.m., the OPP said officers were conducting a RIDE check on Atherley Road.  

Police say a driver was displaying signs of alcohol consumption and was subsequently arrested.

Harry Lilly, 42, of Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

Lilly was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Nov. 28.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
